We moved on from Curecanti National Recreation Area (Gunnison area) to Grand Junction/Fruita CO. This completes the Hwy 50 journey from Pueblo, on the east side of the state, to Grand Junction, on the west side of the state. Hwy 50 is an incredible drive, following the Arkansas River, over Monarch Pass, following the Gunnison River and finally finishing outside the Colorado National Monument.
We are staying inside the park at the Saddlehorn Campground. This is a dry camping campground situated at the top of the mesa. The beauty of the Monument is how the roads climb up the side of the Mesa's, meander on top, and then cling to the sides again when going down.
Either way the scenic views are amazing.
We will be here 5 nights and will be departing on Aug 23rd.
