Where are we? 8/23/2022 Valley of the Gods Utah

Updated: Aug 23, 2022

We left Grand Junction CO and had a pleasant drive going down the eastern side of Utah. Canyon Lands NP, Arches NP, Moab, Monticello, and Bluff UT made for a wonderful backdrop for our travel day. I was surprised by the apparent lack of people in the Moab area. I suspect that gas prices, and general inflation, has reduced the amount of people travelling. Wasn't even a line at the entrance to Arches NP, which is abnormal compared to the park pressure observed last year.

We found amble dry camping spots available in the Valley of the Gods scenic loop. We took a location close to the road to make our day trips easier. We still have an amazing view. While a full fledge grocery store is an hour away, we are only 5 miles from Mexican Hat and 20 miles to Bluff for gas and access to convenience store. And amazingly we have cell service with our ATT hotspot. No Verizon or T-Mobile though.

During our 5 days stay we plan to take in the Valley of the Gods Scenic Loop, Goosenecks State Park, Moki Dugway scenic drive, and Monument Valley (across the border in Arizona).

Our biggest challenge will be the heat. We are in the low 90's today and will be in the high 90's tomorrow so we likely will be breaking out the generator so we can run the AC. Fortunately, it does cool down into the mid 60's at night so we should have to run the generator/AC over-night.
